In an ongoing scandal, Volkswagen (VW) – the Germany-based auto giant – has admitted to falsifying emission test results for several of their model year 2009 to 2015 automobiles. By using what is known as a "defeat device" in their vehicles, they were able to make their diesel engines pass emission tests when, in reality, some of them were ejecting nitrogen oxide levels 40x the standard.
So far, 11 million Volkswagen vehicles – 500,000 of which were sold in the United States – will be affected by an upcoming recall. The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is now looking into another 2 million vehicles, approximately, distributed by Audi, BMW, and Porsche. VW reports it will spend $7 billion to clean up the trouble they have caused, but they are not the only ones hit by financial loss.
Do you own any of the aforementioned Volkswagen Models? Are you aware that the resale value of your vehicle has likely plummeted because of this scandal? Additionally, the amount that you originally paid for your car is certainly higher than it is worth, seeing as it does not perform as promised. VW knows that it has done wrong to its consumers – the CEO has flat-out admitted that they were dishonest – and now it is time to hold them accountable.
